January 2007

We had such a busy day today!  I left the house at 7:50 and didn’t get home until 3!  yes, 7:50 was late, I should have left earlier!

Eric had his Well Child Check Up this morning at 8:30.  He has finally made it to the 10 percentile mark!!  He weighed in at a hefty 27 lbs!!  His dr said he looks great and was pleased with his weight.

After we left the dr’s office we went to Nana’s house to get her meds for her and we got to watch the snow!  By the time we got to Nana’s the flakes were HUGE.  I don’t know if I’ve ever seen flakes that big and fluffy!  SO, we just had to wake up Aunt Betty so she could see the snow.  The snow only lasted about 30 minutes, but it sure was nice to see it while it lasted!

After we left Nana’s house we went to the dentist.  I had an appt at 11 and Kiel had his at noon.  We got through at 1 which left us just enough time to run through Chick-Fil-A on our way to Book Club that started at 1:30.

Our Speed Stacking cups were in and the kids played with the cups!  At first we were separated into 2 groups, those who knew how to stack and those who didn’t!  After a bit of practice we went back into the main room and the kids got to stack!  Kiel really had a good time.  It was nice to see him enjoying himself today!  As everyone was getting ready to leave, the kids decided to stack all of the cups into a wall sort of thing.  They had oodles of fun knocking them down!  Needless to say, we left the library 1 green cup short!  Fortunately it was found and we will be reunited with it next Wednesday at the library!

Now, back to my regulary schedule TO DO LIST around the house!

We loaded up the boys and went to the Greenbelt for a nice walk this afternoon.  Usually the boys bring their bikes and ride while Brian and I walk and push Eric in the stroller.  Today, the boys brought a football to throw while we walked.  Brian wore those boys out!  He’d throw the ball and the boys would run up ahead and catch it and throw it back, REPEAT, REPEAT, this went on the whole 40 min that we walked!  Eric kept wanting to walk also, but I was out there for exercise and didn’t want to wait on him!  He was able to walk at the begining of the trail and again at the end!

It was a little colder than I would have liked, but we managed.  It was nice just to get out and get some fresh air and let the boys go, and go, and go!

I think they’ll sleep well tonight! I know I will!

Kiel and Eric GLADLY went through the house and gathered all of the straggling cups! They did this with a cheerful heart. As I was loading the DW this morning, they would bring me cups with a smile on their faces. You see, I’m smarter than the average bear, Every time they brought me a cup, I gave them an Oreo Cookie.

Is that a bad thing?????

Jackson spent the night with his Aunt and Uncle last night.  This gave him some time for himself and some time to feel kinda special!  They like going with them, they usually get to go to Target, they really like this when their siblings aren’t with them!  They also like the fact that they don’t have to fight for attention!

This also gave Kiel some time to himself.  Although he wasn’t the one to get to go, he was the one that got to stay!  He didn’t have a little brother pushing his buttons (which Jackson does so well).  He didn’t get in trouble for pushing Jackson’s buttons (which he does so well).  I think this morning, he’ll be able to get some reading done!  That is how he buys xBox time!  He gets 1 minute for xBox360 for each minute of reading, for the older xBox, he gets 2 for 1!

We went to Mardel the other day and got Kiel some paper that is lined a bit differently.  He is using Handwriting Without Tears.  We found paper made by the same company and they sale it at the store and this will help him practice!!  We used this curriculum when we taught him cursive.  Two years back in public school have left his hand writing with much to be desired!  He can’t even read it!!  A friend of mine sent me a link for this site and I can print out blank lined pages for him to practice on also!  When Kiel has the paper, his handwriting is legible.  I figure if he uses the paper for a while it will become a habit!

Happy Birthday To Nana,
Happy Birthday To Nana,
Happy Birthday To Nana,
Happy Birthday To YOU

We Love You Nana

Why does everyone just assume that Jackson needs help in school?  Why do his teachers tell me he needs extra help at school, then test him and realize that he doesn’t need their help?  Last year in Kindergarten, his teacher told me that Jackson would need to go to summer school.  I told her that I wasn’t going to send him to summer school.  A week later the kids did 3 different tests.  After the testing, his teacher told me that NO, Jackson didn’t need to go to summer school.  She was SHOCKED at how well he ACED the tests.  Well, we are going through that again this year.  Jackson has only been in this school for 3 weeks, 1 of which he missed!  The week he is out, I get a letter in the mail saying Jackson had to go to Tutoring.  There is also a little sentence in the letter that tells me since they say he needs to go, LEGALLY I HAVE to send him.  That little sentence right there made me not want to send him!!  But then I realized if he needs the help, he should go, and I know he’d enjoy it!  So, as I was sitting down signing my name, the phone rang.  It was Jackson’s teacher.  She wanted to let me know that they did the TPRI testing and that Jackson was on a higher reading level than she had given him credit for.  She went on to tell me that Jackson would not need tutoring!

So I’m curious…….Who initially decides that Jackson needs help?  Does that nasty principal have anything to do with it?  Does the school get extra money for the kids they tutor? for summer school?  And LEGALLY?  Come ON!  Like that same principal told me a few years ago that its ILLEGAL to home school in the state of TEXAS…..HELLO!!

So Jackson showed them that he is smart and he has now been put on the same reading level as the rest of the class!

Well I held that cranky 3 year old and he went to sleep.  That was about 10:30 this morning.  He woke up again at 4!  He drank some water and ate some jello.  He fell back asleep at 6:30.  His fever is up again.  Mom,Daddy and Aunt Betty came out to drop off some dishwasher detergent, and Eric was sitting in my lap.  He didn’t even get up!  A few minutes after they left, he went to sleep.  I’ll let him sleep until Brian gets home.  Then I’ll wake him up and try to get some soup down him.  Maybe sleep is just what he needs!  He looks like an angel!  If my USB was working, I’d put a pic up.  But I don’t feel like uploading to Brian’s ‘puter, then sending it to my ‘puter, then etc…..

Jackson’s day back went pretty well.  He was certainly tired when he got home today!  I let him veg out in his room and watch TV before he got to his homework.

Off to get the soup ready for Eric!  I guess I’ll fix dinner for the rest of the clan while I’m at it!!

Ok, we’ll try this again.  Jackson is back at school today.  He kept telling me this morning that he was still sick and needed to stay home!  I told him that he just had a cough and that I thought it would get better as the day went on.  He hasn’t had fever since Thursday!  Eric went all day on Sunday with out fever.  Although this morning he woke up with one.  It’s not very high, so he’ll get his blanket and a pillow and camp out on the couch today!  I’m still having both of them drink the echinacea tea.  They get 2 spoonfuls of honey in it!  That’s also good for their throats!

There weren’t any kids today at the gym so I was able to leave early.  I’ll probably have a pretty light week.  2 of the families are on vacation.

Off to hold a cranky 3 year old!

Well we finally made it into modern times!  Brian and I bought a dryer yesterday.  When the last one went out in August, I didn’t mind using the line because the clothes actually dried faster outside than they did in the dryer.  Well, this dryer actually has the clothes dry before the washer is finished!  Yes, when the sun comes back out, I will use the clothes line again.  We’ve saved too much money on our electric bill to go back to only using a dryer!  Granted it sure was nice to get 5 loads done last night!!
