August 2007

We’ve got a long weekend to look forward to!  This is Brian’s weekend off and he’s getting Monday off also!  4 WHOLE DAYS!  That will be nice.  Maybe he’ll be rested enough to do a few things around the house?  I could really use a new sprayer on the kitchen sink.  It’s not supposed to be too unbearably hot this weekend, maybe we can give the backyard a bit of TLC!  I need to hit Lowe’s also.  My clothes pins that I bought 2 summers ago are breaking!  I would really like to get the positive benefits of the weather!

I went through my closet yesterday and I’ve ended up with 4 trash bags of clothes that need to find a new home!  I’m glad that they don’t fit me anymore, BUT, that left my closet pretty bare!  I can’t seem to find anything to wear lately and now I know why!  My new Casting Crowns T-Shirt fits though!  I’d also like to get a Life Is Good T-Shirt, the jeep came with one of those stickers on the bumper!  I just love that line of clothing, and I just might be able to fit in their tops now!

We put the top on the jeep this afternoon.  We’ve been told that jeep tops don’t go on very easily.  We’ll we’re smarter than your average bear!  We got the top out and put it on the top and back of the van, the van that had been sitting in the sun, and let the top sit on the hot van, while the sun shown down on it!  I don’t know what all of the fuss was about!  The top went on pretty easy.  Brian and I had to tug here and pull there, but all in all, it wasn’t anything too drastic!  We put the boys in the back and drove it to the carwash.  The top needed to be cleaned!  The ride was nice with the top on, my cap didn’t try to fly out!  I may even be able to ride in the jeep with out a cap if we keep the top on!

That is the best way to describe our past few days! Get your coffee (or vice of your choice) and find a comfy spot!

This past weekend was Brian’s weekend to work. But, a co-worker had a thing for his daughter and wanted Brian to go. So Brian took off on Sunday, so he could go on Saturday night. (working 3 12hr shifts in a row doesn’t allow for plans after work) Well, after he took vacation time and after a wonderful, generous grandmother agreed to come to the house and watch a movie with the boys, Brian got a call from a friend. His friend was wanting to get a poker game going that night. So, needless to say, we didn’t go to the co-worker’s function!

Gran came out to the house around 7 on Saturday and watched Eragon with the boys! They were so excited when I told them that she was coming out! They even helped clean up the house!

Since I didn’t know that we were going until the last minute, I didn’t have anything prepared. Brian and I decided to just stop by Hooter’s and pick up some wings to take with us! I think those went over better than my sugar cookies! I didn’t play poker, I had already spent my $25 the weekend before on a pedicure. Brian won $5!

Sunday we went to the park and walked, let the boys get in the pool and just had a slow day. That was the day before the first day of school!

Monday was the first day of school and Jackson was so excited! I walked into his room to wake him up, and all I had to say was “Jackson, It’s the first day of school” and he shot out of that bed like something bit him. (ok, if you’ve seen his room lately you might actually think something did, but I think it was excitement) He ordered scrambled eggs and toast for breakfast and was dressed and ready in no time flat! While I was cooking, he asked if Brian was awake yet. I told him that he was still sleeping. After he ate, we fixed his lunch. While we were fixing his lunch he asked again about his dad. Nope, I told him, still asleep! That’s when he heard the TV from the bedroom. His little eyes lit up! “He’s AWAKE” Jackson ran into the bedroom and asked Brian if he’d take him to school in the Jeep! Jackson was so excited to be taken to school in the Jeep! He asked if we’d pick him up in it also! Of course we did, and that came in pretty handy. It seems that everyone who even remotely knew a child at that school was there to pick up. I’ve never seen such traffic, and that’s saying allot if you’ve ever seen how congested it gets 20 min before school! Because of the traffic, we took the closest parking spot…..in the grass next to the big ditch at the edge of the street. When we had gotten up to the doors, it was like we were at a concert! There were so many bodies, everyone was packed up against each other. You would have expected Elvis to be walking out of the doors! But, no, it was just K-2 coming out! We finally found our little cherub and walked the 40 miles back to the jeep! No one was really going anywhere. Cars were trying to back out to get in line to leave the campus and there wasn’t anywhere for them to go. Brian saw an opening and just barreled right through the ditch! The boys thought that was pretty cool! I thought it was pretty cool that we were able to get in front of about 30 cars!

Kiel started back to school on Monday also. We don’t have all of the books we are wanting, but that’s not going to slow us down. The first few weeks are review anyway! Well, really they are spent getting a schedule going and getting his brain and body back in ’school mode’!

So, today is the first day in 3 days that Brian has gone to work. Luckily I’m off today! Well, from my paying job that is! This house is showing the effects of a fly-by-the-seat few days! I’ve got to tame the laundry monster and while I’m trying do that, I’ll work on the kitchen floor. Feet can only stick to the floor for so long before something has to be done about it! I’m hoping to get some clothes hung on the line to dry. It’s so hot here, I should put that sun to work! The line is in a bad shape though. I haven’t used it that much this summer. It could use some TLC. Most of my clips are breaking also. Guess it’s time for a trip to Lowe’s for more clips!

Happy Birthday to one of the sweetest boys there is! My oldest baby is turning 12 today. WOW, 12 YEARS OLD! Kiel has turned out to be such a caring person. He helps so much with his youngest brother. He’s gotten to the age where he can help Brian work on the cars. He can go out and mow the yard! He is starting 7th Grade this year. He’ll move up to the youth group this year at church. I hope I’m ready to let him go on the outings! I know he’s excited about it!

Kiel has changed so much in his 12 years on this earth! His blond hair has turned to brown. He has kept those beautiful blue eyes. His mouth looks very different now with all of the metal there is in there! I never expected his feet to grow so much! I did expect his body to grow, but looking at his dad and me, I expected him to grow out more than up!

In his 12 years, Kiel has transitioned from VHS tapes to MP3 players! He has moved from play station to a game boy to even fancier game boys all the way to an XBOX360, which is now played on an HDTV! He even wants his own cell phone. He uses the excuse of….so and so has one! I did give in and let him get his own email addy!

The organization that is doing the conference that I wanted to go to is in a contest. RK Dixon is throwing a contest for Non-Profit businesses. The winner gets an off ice technology makeover worth $30, 000!

So, if you got HERE, on August 27th, you can vote for Hearts At Home. You can vote daily until September 5th!

I just might be able to still get the workshops from the conference. They offer a Home Conference Packet. It’s less money than actually attending the conference, and Brian doesn’t have to buy me an airplane ticket, or babysit the boys for 3 days.

I’ll ask Brian what he thinks about it. He may not think that is a good idea either. Once it gets here, that just means that I’ll have to find time to watch it.

It’s getting down to the wire for registering for the conference that I’m wanting to go to.  I asked Brian if I could register today and he has decided that we just really don’t have the money.  I’m very sad to say that I won’t be able to go.  I guess it was a bit selfish of me to want to go, extra money in a one income family isn’t free flowing!  Me going would also mean that Brian would have to spend his whole weekend off from work, babysitting all 3 boys, instead of spending that time resting for the work week ahead.  Although I am sad, I’m thankful that God provides for our needs with just one income!

I was really looking forward to it.  It’s been so long since I’ve seen my friend.

I was also looking forward to listening to Lisa Whelchel talk about home schooling a child with ADD.  Although Kiel doesn’t have ADD, the effects of his birth mirror the symptoms of ADD.  That just means that it’s the same actions, but a different side of the brain is controlling them and ADD meds don’t work!  I was hoping to get some good pointers, tips and much needed encouragement from the workshops!

Oh well, there’s always next year, maybe?

I don’t know what to do.  Today would have been Brian’s daddy’s birthday.  This is the first birthday since his death.  I haven’t lost a parent, i don’t know what I should do, I don’t know what Brian wants me to do.  Brian’s not one to chat about his feelings!  Do I treat this like any other day?  Do I do something special?  What do I do?  I want to bake a cake!  I want to put flowers by the gravestone.  I want to have some sort of remembrance to Dennis today.  But this is Brian’s daddy, do I let him call the shots or do I nudge him a little?

Happy Birthday, Dennis!

We are party’d out over here! We had Kiel’s b’day parties this weekend. His b’day isn’t until next weekend, but Brian’s working all next weekend, so Kiel got to celebrate his b’day early! It’s a pretty good deal for him, he’ll get another cake next weekend!

On Saturday we had Gran, Nana, Grandad, Aunt Kari, Uncle Kevin, Jean and Hossain over! It’s been a while since we’ve had that many people in our little home! We all fit, but I was/am worried that everyone wasn’t comfortable. Half of our guests had to sit on folding chairs! I told Brian that it was nice having everyone out, but with so many people I feel like I didn’t get to visit as much. (are you sitting down?) He told me that if I had people out more often then I wouldn’t feel like I need to cram 4 months of conversation into 2-3 hours. I’ll have to remind him of that next time I want to have people over!

Kiel’s cake of choice was a chocolate cake w/dark chocolate icing. It was pretty good if I do say so myself! A great advantage to having more people over was that there wasn’t as much cake left at the house at the end of the party!

Gran made it to the party first. She hopped up in the Jeep and Brian and the boys took her for a ride around the block! When Nana arrived, Jackson expected her to hop up in the Jeep and go for a ride also! We told Jackson that she wouldn’t go today, but we’d do it another day. Brian will have to work on getting a step, so Nana can go for a ride with him!

I do believe yesterday was the first time in history that Kari was late! She told me that they’d be here at 2, that she had a hair appt at noon and then they’d be here. Well, I didn’t expect her at 2! I know how long a color and cut take! Her hair looked great, so that’s all that mattered!

We pulled some home movies out from ‘89 and ‘90. OH MY GOODNESS. Can someone please tell me why we thought acid washed denim was a good thing?

Kiel’s present from Aunt Kari and Uncle Kevin was Dinner, Movie, Ice Cream and Spending the night. We can’t forget the pancakes with chocolate chips, chocolate syrup and whip cream! So after the party, Kiel packed his bag and we didn’t see him again, until Sunday! He got dropped off just in time for us to make it to his next party!

On Sunday, we met Brian’s mom/stepdad in town for lunch. We had Italian! I love the salad dressing at this place. I always get a salad, because they are supposed to be a better choice, right? Well the House Dressing there is so good that it’s probably not good for me!

To end Kiel’s Weekend O’Fun, we went to a Mexican restaurant for dinner that was close enough to ride in the Jeep to get there!

Now it’s Monday morning, I guess it’s back to the real world!

Well there is a PRO side to having this notebook!  Since I don’t just leave it open, I can’t just get on it at the drop of a hat like I could with the desktop!  I have to open it up and turn it on.  That could be a plus!  Before, I’d just pop on the computer here and there.  Now, I won’t be able to get on as often!  Like now, I’m on in the middle of straightening the house.  But that’s because while I was cleaning the bathroom, I had 2 little boys need to use it.  That was a good excuse to sit down and play with my new toy!

The bathroom is probably cleared out by now, so I’ll go back to work!

This new notebook may not be the best thing for me. I’ve got people coming over in a few hours and I can’t seem to get off of this computer! I’ve got a cake to ice, a bathroom to clean, floors to sweep and rugs to vacuum. Then I’ve got to bathe 2 boys, make one shower and get them all dressed before I worry about myself! It would be nice if the front walk and driveway were swept also! It’s not that I’m just playing around on the internet, I’m trying to get this thing personalized! Ya know, get all of the settings like I like them and try to remember what I had in my bookmarks on my old computer! If you know me at all, you know that my memory isn’t anything to brag about! AND, I’m no computer genius! That poor guy who helped us at the store knows that now!! ;) So, it’s not the easiest task getting into the guts of this thing to make it my own!

So, since I’ve got no time, what’s the one thing I am doing? Blogging about having no time! Is there a pill or something that I can take for that?
