TOES

I splurged a bit last weekend and had my toes ‘done’! I know most of you have already been privileged enough to have gotten these pics via email, but everyone needs to see how cute and festive my toes are, right? AND, in case you were curious, I did spend all of Black Friday in open toed sandals for everyone to see, the freezing temps and rain didn’t stop me!!!

I know, I’m just too cute for words!!  AND, if you too, want to be too cute for words, I’ll be glad to let you know who did the artwork.  She’s a local gal out here and her artistic abilities are pretty much endless!!

We were eating out (again) yesterday.  Not really sure what we were eating.  It was 2PM, and we had a Mediterranean type dinner about 8ish.  I got out the crackers, cut up some cheese, sliced 2 pears, drained some black olives, and washed up some grapes.

We gave the waiter our order and when the food arrived at the table, Eric demanded that we all pray.  Brian kinda looked at Eric, then at me, all while Eric was chanting…..Let’s Pway.  I informed Brian that it was useless to ignore him and that it would be easier to comply!

So there we sat, IN THE MIDDLE OF TEXAS LAND AND CATTLE COMPANY with a 3 year old leading us in prayer!

This was his prayer:

“Jesus, Thank you for us food.  Thank you for us hearts.  Thank you for us cheese sticks.  AMEN”.

Could there have been a better prayer?  I don’t think so, either!

And, if you didn’t already know, Texas Land and Cattle Co. has a great special on Saturdays from 11-4.  You get 2 free kids meal with each adult entree!  All 3 boys got a free kid’s meal yesterday!  Granted, they still ate the same amount.  We usually get 2 kids meals and Eric gets a bit of his brothers.  Yesterday, Kiel didn’t eat his fries, Eric only ate his fries and Jackson ate half of his chicken and half of his fries!

Those of you who know my Mom, know how much she loves reading anything written by Erma Bombeck.

These are for you Mom!!

Thanksgiving dinners take eighteen hours to prepare.  They are consumed in twelve minutes.  Half-times take twelve minutes.  This is not coincidence.  ~Erma Bombeck

What we’re really talking about is a wonderful day set aside on the fourth Thursday of November when no one diets.  I mean, why else would they call it Thanksgiving?  ~Erma Bombeck, “No One Diets on Thanksgiving,” 26 November 1981

Shopping is a woman thing. It’s a contact sport like football. Women enjoy the scrimmage, the noisy crowds, the danger of being trampled to death, and the ecstasy of the purchase. ~Erma Bombeck

We’ve had the best day!

I baked a turkey for the very first time today!  In past years, our Thanksgiving meat of choice was smoked brisket!  There’s a little joint up the road that we would always call and order a brisket.  This year, we went the route that please our bank account!!!  The grocery store had .39/lb turkeys!  I needed a challenge anyway, and the turkey came out perfect!  We found a recipe on the internet that said to put an apple, 1/2 of an onion and some celery stalks in the cavity of the turkey while it cooked to keep it moist.  It worked great!

The boys have split their time today between computer time and riding their bikes.  They are still getting used to the cold weather also.  They like to go outside and play long enough to get cold and then come in and drink hot chocolate!

Right now, everyone is getting settled down.  The Incredibles are on TV tonight.  All 3 boys have ended up with pillows and blankets.  It’s a great movie for them to come down off of the sugar high the got from all of the pie they’ve eaten today!!

The boys have been wanting to set the tent up so badly! We had planned on going somewhere and setting it up Tuesday and Wednesday, so we decided to have a practice run in the backyard Sunday night. We bought the tent a few months ago thru Craigslist. We finally got to use it! The boys got their sleeping bags out and Brian and I borrowed Nana’s queen size air bed. We got the chairs out and Brian started a fire. The boys had lots of fun roasting marshmallows! We all got in the tent and there was plenty of room for everyone! I was glad that we weren’t packed! Brian and I found the air bed not to be very comfy. I think it was just too tall. We decided to post pone our camping trip until we were able to find an air bed that we like! Today, we found one, so we should be set for the next chance we get! We went with a Coleman air bed. I think it will work great! I found some that are made for truck beds, but they are a bit out of our price range.

Maybe we’ll have another practice run!! It probably won’t be too soon, we’ll have to wait a few days and let this cold front move on. It’s in the 50’s here today! That’s not a bad low temp for camping out, but it’s a bit too cold for a high temp to camp in! In a tent that is!! Hopefully Brian and I can get busy working on the camper. We’ve gone thru the cabinets and storage areas, I had no idea a camper could smell that musty! I found this stuff at Target called Citrus Magic. It has really helped with the smell in the camper. We washed everything down and brought in and washed the stuff we could. We haven’t even opened the bathroom door and Brian still needs to get their sheets off the bed. The camper door was shut 7 years ago and hadn’t been opened until last week when we started cleaning it out! I do have all of the stuff that I washed in a big storage tub, I’ve let Brian’s mom and step-dad know that I’ve got it all washed and that we’ll store it all for them in the garage and it will all be ready when they use the camper again. When we are able to use the camper, we’ll get everything out and washed and packed in separate storage tub. This way we won’t have to spend weeks cleaning it out every time we want to use the camper.

We were eating lunch today at our favorite Mexican joint. We were sitting outside enjoying the fabulous 80* Fall weather. As we were sitting there I had fun critiquing the clothing choices of the other patrons. Most of them needed a second look in the mirror ;) BUT, there was one lady who looked very nice. She was wearing brown pants and a really cute blue and brown blouse. I mentioned to Brian how nice she looked and Kiel glanced over at her. Kiel looked back at me like I had completely lost my marbles:

“Mom, She’s wearing a CAPE!”

Oh my stars, this child needs help!

Just in case you were curious…….the lady had a brown sweater over her shoulders!

After we left the state park, we decided not to eat dinner for the next 2 weeks to go Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. It was very nice going thru there with the truck, I don’t know if it would have been as much fun if we still had the Honda. Kiel and Jackson had the backseat to themselves and each had their own window to feed the animals out of. Eric moved to the front seat with Brian and me and was able to go back and forth to feed the animals.

We had talked about the ostriches for a while and finally saw some. I held out some food and got their attention. When they came over to the truck I dropped some food on the ground. One of them ate it and of course wanted more, much more, like my whole bag of food! This is where Brian really had some fun. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen ostriches eat, or take what ever food they want. They are quite aggressive and bang their head quite vigorously in the food. Well, this ostrich wanted more than the few pieces that I put on the ground and knew that I had more in the truck. This is when Brian thought it would be REALLY funny to LOCK the windows. I couldn’t roll the window up! Needless to say there aren’t any pictures of this because I was doing all I could to not wet myself! Oh, he laughed and laughed! I still can’t see the humor in it ;)

We loaded up the boys and went to Glen Rose last Saturday!  It’s a few hours drive, so we loaded up bright and early.  We got there and the temperature had warmed up a bit.  It was still cool enough for pants, but not so cold that you couldn’t enjoy being outside.

The first track was down a small but steep trail.  The boys loved climbing all over the rocks.  When we got back up from the water, we saw another trail.  We followed it for a bit, then decided that we wanted to see the rest of the tracks and took off to the next site.

The next track was in the middle of the creek.  There were rocks going across the creek as a path, but the water was about ankle deep.  We went back to the truck and took our socks and shoes off and put on water shoes!  As soon as stepped in the water I realized that we may need to re-think this.  The water was FREEZING!  None of us fell in, although I came very close on one of our treks thru another creek!

There were a few more sites with tracks and they all involved some sort of climbing, hiking, walking in water, walking over rocks, or scooting over huge rocks.  The boys had so much fun!

For lunch, we found a nice little picnic area with a playground.  I never knew Jackson could get so high on a swing!  Eric had fun going up and down the slide and Kiel tried to get as high as Jackson, but decided since God didn’t intend for man to fly, he wasn’t going to chance it!
