January 2008

I believe that Jesus does like to shop. I think he realized that He and I haven’t shopped in a while and He was missing the 2 4 of us shopping together.

All 3 boys are getting too tall for their pants. We just bought the older 2 jeans in October! Poor Eric, we never seem to be able to find him pants that fit. If they are long enough then he can’t keep them up! A few days before Christmas I actually found some pants that are long enough and didn’t fall down. But, a 4y/o boy plus 2 pair of pants equals lots of laundry!

After Kiel’s ortho appt yesterday, I went over to the shopping strip and hit The Children’s Place. A friend had told me on Friday that they were having a big sale, their MONSTER SALE to be exact. I had mentioned it to Brian and he didn’t want to go. He said it would be a waste of time. That they never have anything when we go there. My friend said that we must hit the store after she leaves!!

We got to the store and everything had been picked over quite a bit, but there was just enough for us! Jackson, who just got 3 new pair of Levi’s in October, had out grown all but one pair of jeans. I was able to get 3 pair of pull on cargo pants regularly $16.50 for $3.82! How’s that for a monster sale? He and Kiel both got a pair of athletic pants $4.42. Although I had to do a lot of coaxing for Kiel to get a pair. He likes his jeans and camo pants and didn’t want anything else. That is until he tried them on when we got home, now he wants to go back and get more! Jackson and Eric also got a soft fleece pullover for $3.82. Then I headed to Eric’s section. He got a pair of the cargo pants also in camo–he was so excited to get camo pants! Eric also got a sweater for $2.97, a hoodie for $3.37 with gloves to match for $2.12, an orange fleece pullover and a camo print pair of wind pants, which fall off, even though they are the same size as the others. I figure he may be able to wear them this summer and at least by next Fall!

As I was checking out, a lady was talking to us and asked if I had the 15% off coupon. I didn’t know about this coupon and let her know that I didn’t have one. Well she happened to have an extra coupon and this coupon can be used as much as I want until February 18th! Eric asked her why she gave it to us and she answered “Because I’m a Grandmother” She also told me that Dillard’s is having their 50% off sale, but not to go now because it wasn’t 75% off yet and that the Disney store’s big sale will be next weekend!

After all was said and done, I spent $56(even, weird, huh?) and the total would have been $166.50. I think that’s just a great deal, Brian thinks that proves how over priced everything is! Either way, I think it proves that G*D knows what we need and DOES provide. And yes, I think he likes to shop also!

The family that runs ‘airsoft saturday’ sent some pics that they had taken last weekend. I thought I’d put them up here!

The first one is a pic of Brian giving Kiel a few pointers before a match!

The next is Kiel on the field!  You can’t see his face in either of these, he’s got his face shield on!  Got to protect that gorgeous smile!

Airsoft2

This last pic is of Brian and me.  We are in the safe zone!!  As you can see, that is where most of the parents spent their time!  There were a few brave dads that ventured out, but only with firepower also!  One mom went out in the field to take close-up pics.  She was worried about getting hit in the face, so we let her use Kiel’s spare face shield.

I don’t know about you, but I just don’t think like a 4 year old.  I like to think I do a pretty good job of understanding Eric’s thought process.  I usually know what he’s going to do or say before he does or says it.  Sometimes I’m left in awe of what comes out of his mouth and astounded at how his little mind works.  He’s just his own little person!

Today we went to the public school in town and had a seeing and hearing test and an evaluation by the speech therapist.  I’ve had a few family members tell me that Eric should be talking better than he is.  I do know his speech isn’t perfect, but he did just turn 4 and he isn’t in pre-school!

When it was time to be evaluated by the speech therapist, she and Eric sat at a table and looked at pictures in a book.  They got to one picture and she asked him what it was a picture of.  Eric said:

“I don’t know….there’s water, and there’s her head and she’s got one arm.”

The therapist agreed and asked him what the girl was doing in the water.

“A shark ate her”

The therapist seemed a little shocked.  She tried pretty hard to get him to say the word ‘swimming‘.  It just didn’t happen.  Eric was insistent that the durl got eaten by the shark!

The Pre-K teacher was also in there with us and she had markers for Eric to see if he could trace and to see the different shapes he could draw.  After she had him do a few things, she had him just draw on a blank sheet of paper.  He was drawing and would tell her what everything was.  With the last drawing, she told him that she really liked his circle.  He let her know that it wasn’t a circle.  She asked if it was a zero, and he let her know that it wasn’t a zero either.  She asked Eric what it was a picture of and Eric said:

“It’s a rock.”

Isn’t it amazing the way their little minds work?

and just in case you were curious, eric didn’t qualify for speech therapy  :D

I absolutely love this song! Is there anyway to find out which presidential candidate fits this profile?

Yesterday ended up being a great day!

We got the 2 younger boys dropped off at my parent’s.  We got to the pasture a few minutes late and one round had already begun.  Which was kinda good, Kiel was able to watch for a few minutes to see how it works.  We watched as one by one the boys walked up to the ’safe’ area.  As that round was ending, the new kids circled around the dad who owned the property and we were given the basic rules……no shooting in the face, the 2 safe areas, no shooting any closer than 15 ft, muzzles pointed up or down in the safe areas, and most importantly….no getting in or around the hay bale!  The rules were very easy to follow, all though, when an opposing team member is a few steps from your flag, you don’t think about the 15ft rule, you just shoot!  They played a few rounds of team vs. team, to get everyone warmed up before playing ‘Capture the Flag’.  They did a great job of splitting the teams.  There were some boys with semi-automatic to full automatic and there were some with single shot guns.  There were some younger boys and there were also some Dads playing also.  All in all it was a perfect few hours!  The one thing that I didn’t like was that as I went to take the first pic, my camera started beeping at me to let me know that the batteries were low.  Thinking I could get just one pic, I pushed the button and the camera just shut off!  Luckily I did have the camcorder, but I still haven’t figured out how to upload the video to my computer!

We picked up the younger 2 from my parent’s and drove thru Arby’s on the way home.  We left the pasture before the last round.  Kiel’s gun had started to misfire and we wanted to be able to come home and get Jackson changed for the game.

Jackson didn’t play as well this game as he did last week.  He did well during the second half, but he only got one steal.  Our team won this week!  Next week we travel to another town that we’ve already played.  They beat us pretty good last time we played them.  Most of the reasons were because of their ref, but I won’t go into that!  We’ll just practice a little harder this week and rise above it.  Brian will be able to go to that game, he missed the last time we played them because it was his weekend to work.

We got our pictures at the game this week.  Now we’ll all show our support for Jackson.  I ordered us each buttons w/Jackson’s picture on them!  Brian’s mom doesn’t make it to Jackson’s games, but Brian thinks she’d like a button anyway.  I’ll see if I can find some place that will make a button from a picture.

After the game, Jackson went home with a friend for his first ever sleep-over.  Brian and Kiel had the gun all apart on the kitchen table to try to figure out what the problem was.  Brian decided that one of the clips wasn’t working right.  So we loaded up in the truck and went to the store where we bought the gun…..1.5hrs away!  The guy at the store is so nice and helpful.  He took the clip apart and showed Brian how to fix the spring and put it all back together.  Brian had a good look at the gun choices.  He’ll be buying himself one soon!  I don’t think he liked sitting on the sidelines watching everyone else out there shooting!

Eric had a great day also.  Even though nothing centered around him, he still had a great day.  He got to spend a few hours at Nana and Grandad’s, he got one on one lap time before and during the game with me, Daddy, Gran, Aunt Kari, Nana and Grandad!  What else could a 4y/o want?

Tomorrow is going to be such an exciting day for our older 2 boys!

Kiel gets to attend his first air soft scrimmage. Some of the home schoolers in our association get together once a month and play airsoft in a pasture. I don’t know if Kiel will be able to get any sleep tonight, he is that excited. He’s made sure that he’s got both of his batteries charged and he’s got both magazines loaded with ammo. He was finally able to find a bag for his gun and it’s packed and ready to go! We found this one on Wednesday. We didn’t get it from SA, we were in another store. I’m glad, we got it for $5 cheaper! And to top off Kiel’s excitement, Brian took tomorrow off! He’ll be able to go with us! That was a wonderful surprise!

Jackson has a basketball game after Kiel’s airsoft game. Now that he’s got the feel of stealing the ball, he’s really excited about tomorrow. He told me this afternoon that I’ll need to have about $20 for him, because he plans on stealing every chance he gets. There’s also a possibility that Jackson might actually go on his first sleep over tomorrow night. A mom of a friend of his and I made plans for Jackson to go home with them after the game and spend the night. BUT, now that Brian’s taken off, and I haven’t talked much with him about this, I haven’t mentioned it to Jackson yet. We’ll see how it turns out. This is a big step for me. Kiel is 12 and still hasn’t been on sleep over! I’m not counting family, they’ve had their share of those, I’m talking going to friends house for the night.

Our day is definitely packed! I figure we’ll leave here around 8:30 to get to my parent’s by 9, drop the younger 2 off, jump on over to another small town for air soft that starts at 9:30, play until 12-12:30, head back to my parent’s, p/u the younger 2 boys, head back to our small town for basketball. We’ll probably have to eat lunch in the truck between air soft and basketball, and have Jackson change when we get to the school. He has to be at the gym by 1:30!

WHEW!

I know, there are some people who might cringe at this schedule(BRIAN). BUT, I’m so excited! You see, before, it was one boy or the other doing something and the others tagging along. They never complained or even acted upset. Jackson and Eric used to watch Kiel during his karate classes, Kiel and Eric watch Jackson play basketball…..etc…….Tomorrow, I’ll have 2 boys each doing something they are interested in! Yes, that leaves Eric just tagging along, but he’ll be able to hop from lap to lap of grandparents, and his aunt and uncle tomorrow during the basketball game!

Hope everyone in bloggyville has a great day also!

The weather was perfect today. I think we got up to 75* and the sun was shining with just a bit of a breeze.

With such a perfect day, we decided to let the jeep out to play after the basketball game. We came home and changed into clothes that weren’t so nice!

Jeep

We went out to this little strip of land that has quite a few mud holes!

The picture below is us on our way out.  I was the one to get out and unlock the wheels.  I decided that since I was already out and standing in the mud, I might as well get a picture and walk on up ahead and get another picture of Brian driving thru the last mud puddle!  And, just incase you want to know, I did walk thru the mud on the side to get that picture!

Jackson had a basketball game today. We weren’t expecting to play until next weekend, since our school district isn’t in session again until Monday. Apparently, we are one of the few ISDs that didn’t go back last Thursday!

We played against a town that is well known for winning at basketball! I didn’t tell Jackson that, I figured I’d just let him go and have fun. That’s the point of basketball anyway, right? Having fun, while moving your body. I did let Jackson know that I wanted him to have fun and that was why I signed him up in the first place. I also told him that winning is really fun also! ;)

Well, within the first 4 minutes the score was 14/0 and we were the winning team. Jackson got to play towards the end of the first period. He wasn’t playing very aggressively. Brian has talked with him about taking the ball away from the other team, but Jackson just hasn’t done that.

At half time, the boys went out to the hall to get some water. I went out there and had a little talk with Jackson. I let him know that his daddy and I would give him $2 every time he took the ball away from the opposing team.

The second half started and Jackson got another chance to play. It was like night and day with that kid.

We gave him $6 after the game!

On the way home as he was holding his cash, Brian asked him if he had more fun once he started playing. Jackson said…..”Yes, Now that I have $6!”

We returned home this afternoon from all of our errands and guess what we had sitting at our front door?

A HEATER THING-A-MA-JIG

Yep, our part had arrived. We were very thankful that the part went in with out much of a fuss! There was just one trip to the local hardware store for some teflon tape-which ended up being some sort of teflon putty because the tape they had wasn’t compatible with gas. I learn something new every day!!!

The part got here just in time for the weekend weather forecast………Saturday’s high is to be in the 70’s ;) And, it’s almost 60* here now, but we let the heater run a full cycle just to make sure everything is peachy keen!

Oh well, here in TX I’m sure we’ll have one or two more nights that we’ll want to use the heater!!!

Last night Brian and I celebrated our 14th Anniversary!

We don’t go out very often with out the boys.  But last night we ventured out of moma and dad land, into husband and wife land!  We went to see I Am Legend.  I’m still not sure how I feel about the movie.  I liked it and didn’t like it, pretty much for the same reasons!

We decided to see the movie before we ate dinner.  Since it was NYE, we figured everyone else would be eating dinner before going on to NYE parties.

When the movie was over, I called Carrabba’s and used their call ahead seating option!  We were able to walk in, say our name and go straight to our table!  As the hostess was seating us, she let us know that we must have great timing, that she had just sat a party that had waited 1.5hrs!  How’s that for timing?

We enjoyed fried zucchini for an appetizer, split the Chicken Parmesan(added an extra side salad) and also split the tiramisu~which we learned was the last one in the building ;)

We started our evening somewhat suspicious about crowds and and traffic packed roads, but we were pleasantly surprised that there weren’t any lines that we had to stand in.  The highway was smooth sailing also!

AND, since the boys were being watched at our house……the space heater had been on and we didn’t have to go home to a cold house!!!

Useless Information—-The last movie that Brian and I went to a theater to see, without children was About Schmidt.  We saw that on our anniversary also!
