February 2008

Does knowing that phrase show my age? Oh, well, I’ll admit it, I’m old!

I called and canceled our home phone today! The lady was very nice but very persistent on having me keep my service with them! Letting me know(a few times) that I could keep a basic land line for @$12 a month. In order to get her to understand that there was no chance in me keeping a land line, I told her my story! ‘NUF SAID!

As of tomorrow evening, we will be a land line free family……by choice!!!! Just in time for Spring..AKA….The Rainy Season!

This also means that we got a new cell phone today and I now have a 12 year old with a cell phone! In reality it’s Brian’s phone, but he’s got a cell from work. Kiel’s pretty happy with the fact that there are 3 cell phones. He’ll more than likely lay claim to the knew one! I think it’s a pretty cool one! Even if I do have to share my minutes!!

We had our last basketball game of the season today. We came very close to coming in first place of the league, but I’ll save you the ‘blame it on the refs’ speech!!! We lost by ONE point! Win or Lose, it was probably the best basketball game I’ve watched in a long time! The Mav’s could learn a few lessons from these 2nd graders!! Losing that game put us in 3rd place. We had such a great season. Jackson started the season not really knowing much about the rules of basketball. His coaches taught him so well. We couldn’t have asked for better coaches!

I saw some basketball cupcakes in the Family Fun magazine and I just HAD to make them for our team. I think they came out pretty good, however, the gym was kinda warm and they didn’t look this good by the time the game was over. They still tasted good and I was able to somewhat fix them when I handed them out to the boys!

Basketball Cupcakes

Dexter is 9 weeks old today!  I can’t believe how big he’s getting!

DEXTER

It started out like every other morning. The alarm went off at 5AM, I got up to turn it off as the dog started whimpering to be let out of the crate. I stood outside while Dex did his thing. We came inside, Dex got fed and I started grinding coffee beans.

That is when things started going wrong. As I got the coffee pot out of the DW, I noticed there wasn’t a coffee filter in there. The filter was still in the coffee maker FULL. As I’m walking to the trash can, all of a sudden (i still don’t know how) the full filter falls to the floor leaving 8T of used, wet coffee grinds on the kitchen floor! My first thought was to climb back in bed and start the day all over. But, I still had a job to do so that wasn’t a choice. ;)

I finished making the coffee, got Brian’s clothes ready, made his breakfast and sent him out the door with a “Have a great day, I Love You” and a smile!

COFFEE

Quite a few years ago, I saved each and every twisty~tie I could get my hands on.  I was even known to buy a roll of twisty~tie material once or twice!  You see, when Kiel was little I breast fed and PUMPED ALOT.  He was our first child and we still wanted to be able to go out on the weekends.  Frozen, pumped, breast milk was like GOLD to me!  Way back then, 12 years ago, there wasn’t all of the cute breast milk packaging like there is today.  Or, if there was, I didn’t know about them or was just too poor to afford them!  So…..I had little baggies, by Medela, *i think* but I had to close them with twisty~ties.

It’s been a long time since I’ve saved twisty~ties.  That is just one thing that I have chosen not to put in the kitchen junk drawer.

BUT, I did need one today.  I needed one so bad, that I took one off of the loaf of bread!

You see, my wedding ring got too big!  For the past few days, I’ve had to hold my hand funny just to keep my wedding ring on!  I’ve already lost one wedding ring, I DO NOT WANT TO LOSE ANOTHER ONE!  So, now I’ve got a GREEN (this color green) twisty~tie tied around the band of my wedding ring and it fits great again!

I’m trying to find my happy place.

My Touch doesn’t seem to want to work! It worked fine earlier this AM then all of a sudden it didn’t work at all. At first I thought it had gone to sleep, but then nothing happened. Nothing even happens when I plug it into the computer!

It’s just DEAD.

I’m sure the store I bought it from(3 days ago) will do the right thing.

I worked very hard for this toy. This was a big deal. It isn’t very often that I get cool toys.

I’m just a bit bummed.

IT’LL BE OK, RIGHT?

*Well, maybe it won’t be alright. The store exchanged the wrong product, they gave me the older version that is $20 cheaper(i didn’t realize this until I got home and plugged it up). They were so sneaky, that the manager even came over and did an override to RAISE the price to match the more expensive version that I was exchanging. I did end up getting that money back, and just looked at their website and it’s even $10 cheaper today, so looks like I’m headed back to that store! When I called the store about this, I was told that they didn’t have the updated version and sarcastically wished me luck in finding one from another store! I’ve got a letter to customer support that I emailed and I’ll be snail mailing it today. I’ll probably take it with me to the store today and have a chat with the manager again!

**Well, Brian went to the store with me today after I spent 30 min on the phone with the 1-800# that was given to me in the reply to my email.  Basically the email said…..give us your address and we’ll send you a gift card for your inconvenience.  That gift card wouldn’t have touched what I wanted!  The lady then told me that I’d need to take that up with the store manager!  AND SO WE DID! We walked into the store and I asked for a manager.  I handed him my iPod and asked him what he would do about the problem we had.  He stated that he had heard there was a problem and went off into his office for a few minutes.  When he came out he went straight to the register and motioned for us to come over.  He had a few lame excuses for what had happened.  Of course I knew he was lying to me, how do you really not know that there are 2 different products in your store……especially when they are priced DIFFERENTLY!  I did let him know that I wasn’t buying that excuse and either way, there was no excuse for the way I was lied to and talked to.  After all was said and done, he gave us back $40.  Not too shabby.  That ended up being the same price at a store 40 miles up the road where I wanted to go buy the next iPod when I got the money back from this store!  Yes, the principle was my biggest issue with this whole ordeal, BUT, I was looking at an 80 mile round trip to the other store, in a 3/4 Ton 4 door truck.  So, I caved and took the money, saved my gas and kept my 2nd iPod.

I’ve got good and bad news…the ugly…have you seen me after a workout…not pretty…

I’ll start with bad news, that is kinda good also.  My workout buddy is getting a job.  This is great for her, but now I don’t have her to make plans with and that is what has kept me hitting the gym so regularly!  It was nice knowing that I’d be able to talk to an adult, not only an adult but a female adult, for an hour without children interrupting or needing me!  I’m already planning not to go to the gym in the morning and cleaning the house instead.  The house has definitely been neglected since I’ve been giving 110% at the gym.  Granted, as bad as the house is, I know I’ll get my cardio in!

The good news?  A few weeks ago, I joined the National Body Challenge.  There were some offers from other places that came with joining.  Podfitness gave out an 8 week membership.  I signed up for it, but soon realized that I couldn’t put the workout on my cell phone.  Now that I’ve got the Touch, I will be able to use the last few weeks of my membership!  I’ve already got workouts for the bike and the treadmill ready to go!  I like that they use my own music, but I don’t like that I can’t use music that I’ve bought thru iTunes.  I guess that’s a good reason to buy the CD and then put it in my iTunes library!

Now, if you’re reading this and you’re in the area, let’s meet at the gym!

It sure has been a great week around the Reynolds’ home! Brian’s crazy schedule has amazingly become crazier! I didn’t think that was possible! So our nice week is still kinda nice with a little madness thrown in and our hard week has become a bit harder. Now to get a position filled up at Brian’s work, so our lives can go back to being Crazy/Normal! ~ That is, of course, after a few good over time checks!!!(Thank You, Jesus!)

This past week was our nice/madness week. Which means, Brian just had to work 2 days this week!

I had an appt with my doctor on Wednesday and I have lost 52lbs since May! I really felt like I needed a prize. I’ve worked very hard at losing this weight. It doesn’t seem to come off as easy as it goes on! Especially when you’ve got an addictive personality. Thankfully, that saying about exercise being addictive seems to be true in my case.

So, I convinced Brian that I needed an MP3 player for a 50LB PRIZE! We went Wednesday afternoon and shopped for MP3s. We looked at so many different brands and sizes. That day, Zune ended up being the best deal. That was until the next morning when I tried to put a TV show on it! The lady at the store, who talked us out of the 8GB iPod Nano and into a 30GB Zune, was confused about her product. She told me that I could watch TV shows on the Zune, just like iPods. She was wrong. You can’t. Well, you can, if you record the show to a DVD, upload it to your computer then put that file into your Zune library! Sorry, that’s just not for me!

So, I convinced Brian that we needed to take the Zune back. We went to a different location in hopes of finding a sales rep with a bit more knowledge of the products offered for sale! Granted, I already had my mind made up, even though Brian tried to talk me out of it all the way to town….and while we were in the store.

So, I convinced Brian that the iPod Touch was the only way to go. Yes, we could have gotten an 80GB iPod Classic for less money, but the Touch is just so COOL! I told him that he could get the Classic and that we could share!!

So, Brian convinced me that he needed to take the Touch with him to work today!! And, I’m such a nice wife, I loaded Thursday’s Survivor to the Touch for him to watch at work. That is if he happens to have a few minutes where all of the machines do what they are supposed to!!!

Dexter is growing like a weed! Every morning when I get him out of his crate, he seems so much bigger than when he went in the night before! He’s starting to scratch on the door when he needs to go outside. It’s not often, but it’s a start. It’s been wet and rainy here today, so he hasn’t been wanting to spend too much time outside! He’s been very tolerant of that obnoxious 4 year old running around here, even going so far as NOT to bite those little hands that are being shoved in his mouth! That alone was an action worthy of a treat!!!

Jackson had a basketball game today. It was the first game of the tournament and we WON! The boys played so well. I was so proud of them!  I only screamed at the ref once!  We play again next week and I’ve got the perfect cupcakes in mind!

Hope y’all have a great week.

He’s a black lab and his name is Dexter! Isn’t he cute?

Dexter

I am exchanging my computer time for gym time.  I’ve been meeting a friend at the gym in the mornings.  Granted it was easy for me, I was already there working!  She and I have a great circuit going.  If Brian is at work, we mainly just do cardio.  We spend 30 min on the bike, 20 min in the sauna and finish with 30 min on the treadmill.  If Brian is with us, we do a few min of cardio to warm up, do some lifting and finish with the treadmill or sauna.

I love sitting in the sauna.  I’ve never been the type of person who even remotely enjoyed(much less tolerated) sweating.  For some strange reason, not only do I not mind sweating in the sauna(or while working out), I actually love it!  I look forward to it.  I have always heard how good it is for you.  I found a website last night that talked about saunas and the physical and emotional benefits of increasing your body’s temperature.  I’m thinking that sitting in the sauna is the reason I never caught the cold that I felt coming on last week!
