May 2008

Brian was blessed with another Friday off, so we’re heading out to the lake for 3 days! Granted we’ve got to come back tomorrow night for Jackson’s last baseball game and then we’ll have to come back on Saturday to clean the carwash, but the rest of the time will be spent waisting time at the lake!

Dexter has been told that he isn’t allowed to go fishing this time!

If you happen to have trouble deciding what to do with your economic stimulus check or “George Bush Money” as we call it, you should go out and buy loads and loads of wire. You know, you really can’t have enough of that. Heck, now is a good time to have your whole house re-wired. That will help a lot of people out there. It would also give Brian something to do at work. They haven’t had any work all week. They had to shut down the 11-7 shift a few weeks ago, and this week, they’ve only been working 7-3. There’s just nobody buying wire right now. Hopefully, he’ll have some copper to melt next week. Hopefully, he’ll still have a job next month.

When Subway came out with the $5 sub deal, my family thought it was great! We could run up the road, grab 3 footlong subs, feed all 5 of us and have lunch for Brian to take to work the next day! Not bad for $15, right?

Wrong.

They have a contest going on right now and have excluded all home schooled children. After numerous letters, Subway has sent out an apology letter stating that home schooled children will be able to participate in future contests. But what about this one?

That’s my rant for the week!

Yeah, I know it was a week while ago(I keep coming back to this, maybe I’ll finish it today!), but I’m just now getting a few minutes to finish this post! It’s been saved and worked on for a while! We had a full weekend, and apparently a full few days since!

I did have a well planned few days to make the weekend’s camping trip run smoothly. I had planned on using Thursday and Friday to finish up the straggling loads of laundry, give the camper one last walk thru and make a list of things needed from the store and then go to the store. That all came to a screeching halt on Thursday morning around 10AM. That was when Brian called from work to have me call and see if we could go ahead and add Thursday night to our reservations. Work was slow and he was blessed with 2 extra days off! Which meant that my list that consisted of 2 days time now had to be shrunk into 2 hours, because we were at the state park at 12:02 on Thursday!

It was a very hurried weekend. Jackson had a baseball game Thursday night about 30 min from where we were camping, food hadn’t been bought and we had to get up earlier than normal on Friday to drive Jackson thru a few towns to get him to school.

Then Friday afternoon, we drove down to the beach area so Brian and the boys could play in the water. From the look on their faces, I knew my instincts were right. The water was COLD! Dexter and I stayed on the sidewalk and watched. Animals aren’t allowed on the beach. On the way back we drove thru another camping section and noticed that a lot of the dogs weren’t tied up. After we got back to our little spot, Brian and I let Dexter run around dragging his leash behind him. I figured at least we could step on the leash if we needed him to stop quickly! It wasn’t 5 minutes after we decided he could be free that we couldn’t find him. That is until we heard him crying! He sniffed out a fishing pole that had stink bait and a treble hook on it. By the time we made it to the front of the camper, there was quite a bit of blood. Dexter kept trying to get the hook out with his paws and managed to get all 3 hooks stuck on his tongue and soft pallet. This being Mother’s Day weekend and Friday night, there weren’t any regular vets to be found. We ended up at the animal ER a good 45 minutes away. Dexter had to be sedated in order to cut the hooks out of his mouth and we had to buy doggie tylenol and antibiotics! GOOD TIMES, GOOD TIMES! I couldn’t believe they had a straight face when they gave us the total amount. But, unfortunately they weren’t joking. So, this is where we thank George Bush for paying the ER bill!

We came home on Saturday and got everything unloaded and cleaned back up. On Saturday night we all got comfy in the living room and watched Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark. We didn’t realize it was on until 20 min after it had started, so the boys didn’t get to see the opening scene. We’ll have to watch that part, it’s a great scene!

On Sunday we spent most of our day at The Ballpark. Brian got tickets from work for the Ranger’s game. It was a great time, even though the Ranger’s lost. They were giving rhinestoned ballcaps at the gate, it was $1 ice cream day and our seats were behind home plate! The next time, if Brian thinks it’s a good idea to give a 4 year old cotton candy, then he’s sitting next to the 4 year old, not me!!! Between the ice cream, popsicle, peanuts and cotton candy he was a mess, but he sure did look happy!

I’ll just keep telling myself that I can clean the bathroom in the camper. I don’t believe myself though. I went in the camper earlier this morning and opened the bathroom door. My vision went blurry, I felt dizzy and I couldn’t breathe. Just from opening the door! I’m having trouble breathing just thinking about it, my heart is racing! When I got back in the house, I gave Kiel the Citrus Magic and had him put it in the bathroom and close the door.

There are a few reasons that I’m having trouble. One reason is that I have trouble in confined spaces. I figured this out during our first camping trip a few weeks ago. The bathroom in the camper is super tiny. There is a closet~kinda, it’s actually called a ’shirt ward’, a sink on top of a cabinet, a medicine cabinet with a mirror, a toilet(the word is used LOOSELY) and a shower stall. All of this is in a box of a room. I can stand with my arms out and easily touch the walls.

The next reason is the fact that until a few months ago, the camper hadn’t been opened in 8 years! The last time it was used, it was parked and locked up. Everything that was used the last trip was still in the camper. The camper wasn’t cleaned out, at all. That statement includes the bathroom. Not sure if you know this about me, but I’m a huge Germaphobe. Yes, I have 3 boys but dirt is different than germs and my germs are, well, MY germs! When Mom came out the other day to help me clean, we really deep cleaned. As much as I hate bleach, I did use it. With all of the cleaning we did, we didn’t even open the bathroom door!

My game plan for today is to work up enough nerve to open the bathroom door and spray everything with bleach water, then shut the door and go back an hour later. Then I’ll don rubber gloves, sponges, paper towels and a big bowl of hot water.

I CAN DO THIS, I CAN DO THIS, I CAN DO THIS………

…And just in case it’s stuck in your head and (like me) don’t know all of the words:

I love the mountains
I love the clear blue skies
I love big bridges
I love when great whites fly
I love the whole world
And all its sights and sounds
Boom de yadda, boom de yadda, boom de yadda, boom de yadda…

I love the oceans
I love real dirty things
I love to go fast
I love Egyptian kings
I love the whole world
And all its craziness
Boom de yadda, boom de yadda, boom de yadda, boom de yadda

I love tornadoes
I love arachnids
I love hot magma
I love the giant squids
I love the whole world
It’s such a brilliant place
Boom de yadda, boom de yadda, boom de yadda, boom de yadda

A few posts down (Quiet For 60 Seconds) I mentioned that “Gone In Sixty Seconds” could possibly be the best car chase in movie history. I have been thinking about that statement alot. I know everyone has their own opinion on this and there are many factors in the perfect car chase. How many explosions are there, how many cars are destroyed, is it the real actor or a stunt double doing the driving, etc….

So I’m on a quest to find the best car chase. I think “Bullitt” might be the top car chase, but I need to see the original “Gone In Sixty Seconds” and the original “Italian Job”. Brian thinks “Smokey and The Bandit” and “Cannon Ball Run” should be in the list as well.

I don’t know if it is possible to figure out the best car chase, but it sure is going to be loads of fun!!!

Let me know which car chases you like!

We loaded the boys and the dog up and went on a nice little day trip on Sunday. We headed north to Sherman, TX to the Eisenhower State Park. We’ve been close by the park once before. The road we used to get to the park was under water the last time we were there!

I have decided that it will not be my first pick to hook up the camper, the camper spots were very close to each other. Other than that, it is a nice park. I loved the nature trail. Brian tells me it’s because I didn’t have a 5 month old lab on the end of a leash PULLING me. Well, maybe not, but I did have a 4 year old boy with me who kept wanting to look over the cliffs to see the water. Water that was about 15 feet down! We stopped at Subway and had a picnic when we got to the state park. After we enjoyed the nature trail, we stopped at the beach and let the boys run in the sand! Before we loaded back into the van, we stopped at the playground. Brian pushed Eric while Kiel, Jackson and I swang. It’s been a while since I’ve been on a park swing. I felt a little woozie at first, but finally got my footing so to speak. Brian tried to take the dog down the slide, but Dexter decided against that and jumped off instead!

We made it home in time to bathe our stinky little boys and a dog. Then everyone had a great night’s sleep!

It doesn’t happen very often, but last night the boys were quiet for a little while. I let them watch the last of the movie “Gone In Sixty Seconds”. They watched the chase with the ‘67 Shelby and the police and they didn’t talk, they didn’t even move! They did finally make some noise and jumped around after the Shelby drove up the ramp, flew threw the air, landed and drove off with hardly a scratch!

I did let them know that chase could possibly be the best car chase in movie history.

My family has been so busy the past few weeks. With faulty internet to boot! Our internet has been on vacation. Luckily I have a husband who is obsessed with the internet can fix just about anything. He finally had enough and went around the outside of the house unscrewing and rescrewing the cable fittings. He also broke down and bought a new cord to link the modem to the router. Or something like that, the old one was too long and white and the new one is shorter and blue, and in a perfect world, that would have fixed most of our problems. It didn’t fix them completely, so we went to Fry’s and Brian finally used his gift cards from Christmas and B’day and bought a really nice router! (thanks Nana and Gran!) Now my laptop can connect, the wi-fi on my Touch is very responsive and Brian isn’t getting kicked offline every 5 minutes.

We have had ball games and practices out the whazoo, and when we aren’t doing that, we are in the yard playing catch! Thankfully Brian is catching better now. We aren’t playing any games this week because of TAKS testing. But we’re making up for it next week with 3 games! I am impressed with Jackson’s progress. He’s paying more attention in the outfield, got a very important RBI, and isn’t standing there watching the ball roll past him! Besides, he looks so cute in his uniform!!!

We took the camper out to the lake last weekend. It was the perfect weather for camping. Not too warm during the day and nice and cool in the evening. That was our first time taking out the camper. Eric must have had a good time, every day this week he has asked to go camping again and tonight, he is sleeping in his sleeping bag!

Brian’s mom and step-dad have had the camper parked at our house for the past 13 years, 8 of those years the camper hasn’t moved or even been opened up!! We’ve sat and (literally)watched the tires rot off! A few months ago, when Brian bought the truck, he asked his mom if they would mind if we used it some and they said it wouldn’t be a problem. So Brian got a 5th wheel hitch put in the truck and we bought 4 new tires for the camper! And then we used oodles and oodles of elbow grease! Which I realized, while we were camping, wasn’t nearly enough elbow grease!! ;) So, mom came out today and used her elbows as well. We cleaned and cleaned and then cleaned some moe. After mom said she’d make new curtains and even had the fabric, we washed the old ones just to see if they would hold up. They did!!! AND, they look great!! Lucky mom doesn’t have to sew new curtains! I do think they are a bit too long, so I’ll be hemming curtains in the near future! Since mom already has the fabric, we think slip covers for the cushions will be nice! With 3 very active boys, it will be nice to have covers that can be easily thrown in the washer!

I had a doctor appointment this week. I got the results of my blood test and everything looks great! AND, I’ve lost 64lbs since this time last year! 30 more to go! :P I think the money we spent on a Park Pass and treadmill was well worth it! It’s amazing what a little walk and some fresh air can do for your mind and your body…….it can also feed your passion of shopping for clothes!!
