August 2008

Jackson’s football team is raffling off a 5X10 flatbed trailer (or $600 cash, winner gets to choose)!

Tickets are $5 each and you’ve got about 8 weeks to buy as many chances as you want. There will be a drawing at the end of the season.

We’re raising money for new equipment.

Let me know how many tickets you’d like!

Brian and I took the boys to a RoughRiders game last night. We didn’t stay for the whole thing, and when we left they were getting spanked pretty bad, but it was still a fun time!

I kept forgetting to tell Brian about the grand opening of Market Street until we heard a commercial for it on the radio. Since it was on the way, we pulled over and went in to see what all the fuss is about. It’s a nice store and they’ve got a bunch of the things we go all the way down to Whole Foods for but they’ve still got stuff we shop at Kroger for. Just maybe, we’ll be doing our grocery shopping in one place! They handed out coupons for a $30 gift card when you switch a prescription. I’m definitely using that!

Kiel has his first appt with the orthopedist on Friday. We’re going to have them look at his back and see if we need to do something now or take the ‘wait and see’ approach. Then Friday night we’ll head back to watch another RR game! Maybe they’ll play better on Friday! Either way, I’ll have a blast. Not much else beats the whole family enjoying a baseball game on a warm summer evening!

Today is Kiel’s 13th Birthday. He’s a teenager!

A friend of mine dropped off cupcakes from Sprinkles last night and we’ll eat them after dinner tonight. We had his b’day dinner last night. We went to Whole Foods and got Hatch Chili Crab Cakes! He ate TWO!

When Kiel gets home from school, we’ll take him b’day shopping!

I’ve got one kid at home. It’s a bittersweet feeling. I’m very excited for Kiel, I was feeling like I was just feeding him to the wolves by putting him in school. My fears were put to rest when I met his teacher. I just know this is going to be a great year!

Now that there is just one kiddo at home for the next few hours, we are loading up in the car and heading to IKEA!! I don’t have any money to spend, but I do need bunches of ideas(cheap ideas) for my kitchen and (new) pantry. IKEA has bunches of ideas!!! And, without Brian complaining that I’m taking too long and Kiel and Jackson fighting with each other, I will have a nice long stroll thru the store and be able to really study things!

Hope your day is as great as mine will be!!!

We are down to one car, I’ve got to get Jackson to weigh in for football at 10:30, Jackson has practice at NOON until 2, Kiel’s Meet the Teacher is at 1 and Brian has to work today!

SO, I drove Brian to work at 5:30 this morning. I had 2 little boys who decided to wake up and ride with us! I’ll leave football practice early and take Kiel to meet his teacher, Jackson will tag along with a friend for a bit and after we smile and make our niceties with Kiel’s teacher, we’ll head up to Brian’s work and get him!

Good Bye to the Lazy Days of Summer!

At least we won’t be able to say that we are bored!!!!

We really are sprucing up our house. It’s a slow process because money really doesn’t grow on trees!

We’ve been at this for about 6 weeks now. It all started out very simple, we wanted to paint the bathroom. We did the walls then we got a wild hair and decided to tackle the kitchen cabinets. The lady in the paint dept told us all we had to do was use the primer she recommended and then paint. Sounds easy enough, huh? I don’t think she quite understood me when I said 30 YEAR OLD cabinets. Or maybe it was the GAS STOVE COOKING she didn’t understand. Either way, that primer didn’t do the trick. Brian and I got to spend a week and a half sanding the cabinets down again. That was when we decided to take them all the way down to the wood and we were serious this time, we went with KILZ in the spray can! That worked so well for the doors, we did the same thing with the cabinets. And, to answer your question, YES, there is sawdust and over-spray on just about everything in the house! You wouldn’t believe the difference in my kitchen from dark stained wood cabinets to bright white cabinet shells. All of the doors and drawers are lined up against the wall in my laundry room waiting for the money tree to shell out money for an airless sprayer. The roller left an orange peel effect and the brush left brush strokes! All of the contents from the cabinets are in rubbermaid tubs in my kitchen floor! Needless to say, I can’t remember the last meal I cooked. We’ve eaten out way too much. My digestive system and new clothing size can’t take much more of this! While the cabinet painting is on hold, we decided that we didn’t like the $8 a box peel-n-stick linoleum that we put down in the bathroom about 6 months ago. Fortunately, Home Depot had some tile for .68 sq. ft.! We are now knowledgeable in the art of tile-laying! I think we need to do the same thing to the kitchen floor!!

We’ve tiled the floor and painted the walls in the bathroom. We’ve got the cabinet doors off, sanded down and painted, they are waiting one more coat before they can be re-hung.

We’ve got the kitchen cabinets and doors off, sanded down to the wood and primed, waiting on an airless paint sprayer!

It’s really going to look nice when we’re done! You should come and see it!!!
